People Magazine reports the death of 21 year old child star Skye McCole Bartusiak was ruled an accidental overdose. She died in her sleep at her home in Texas in July, 2014.
Skye was a beautiful young actress that played Mel Gibson’s daughter in the 2000 Oscar nominated The Patriot. Skye was nominated for a Young Actor’s Award in 2001 for the same performance. She also appeared in Cider House Rules and Don’t Say a Word.
Skye’s untimely death was the result of a lethal combination of prescription drugs and inhalants. Hydrocodone, found in painkillers, carisoprodol, a muscle relaxant and difluoroethane an inhalant found in household products that can be used to get high, according to the National Institutes of Health are to blame in her drug overdose.
Substance abuse among young people that involves the use of prescription drugs and common household products and medications has been on the rise. Skye’s death shows how your adults are at risk of early death related to drug abuse.
Skye’s mother Helen, also an actress and producer said, “She was a kind and really beautiful girl, this girl has lived such an amazing life.”
